Momentos es una producción musical de cinco piezas de jazz creadas en diferentes estilos ritmos y situaciones; de allí su nombre. Es una muestra del trabajo de Rubén Castaño como compositor, pianista y productor y refleja gran parte de su experiencia en Berklee Valencia, donde se realizó la grabación con la participación de músicos de diferentes países.
El EP reune temas en diferentes estilos, cuyo eje principal es el jazz. “Momento Latino” combina las melodías latinas y afrocubanas con el sonido de agresivos vientos. “Monkeando” es un funk, inspirado en el estilo percutivo del pianista americano Thelonious Monk. “Patijazz” parte del sonido cadencioso de la cumbia, arrullado por los vientos y matizado por los solos de piano y vibráfono. “Swinging Well” evoca el sonido de los años treinta con un toque contemporáneo, renovado y jovial. Finalmente está “Progressive”, un tema de fusión que remite al oyente al sonido de Chick Korea Electric Band. En palabras del autor, “El propósito de Momentos es transmitir diferentes emociones y sentimientos positivos que lleven al oyente a disfrutar o a bailar incluso, a conectarse y gozar la música sin importar el contexto socio-cultural”.
Moments is a musical production of five jazz pieces created in different rhythms, styles and situations, with the participation of musicians from different countries. It is a sample of the work of Ruben Castano as a composer, pianist and producer reflecting much of his experience in Berklee Valencia, where the recording was made.
This EP is a combinación of tracks in different styles, connected by jazz harmonies. "Monkeando" is a funk, with percussive style inspired by the American pianist Thelonious Monk. "Patijazz” is a mixture of the lilting sound of cumbia, lulled by the winds and tempered by the piano and vibraphone solos. “Momento Latino” combines Latin and Afro-Cuban melodies with the sound of harsh winds. "Swinging Well" evokes the sound of the thirties with a contemporary, renovated and jovial touch. Finally there is "Progressive", a fusion that remainds the sound of Chick Korea Electric Band.
In the words of the author, "The purpose of Momentos is to convey different emotions and positive feelings that lead the listener to enjoy, dance and be connected with music regardless socio-cultural context”.
The Cristal room of the City Hall of Valencia was the scenery for Berklee’s Valencia teachers and students concert. Rubén Castaño Latin Jazz Quartet and Conjunto Vocal were invited to perform as part of the group of Contemporary Performance Master students.
Valencia’s Mayor Joan Ribó, was present at the event and congratulated the performers. He showed his support with Berklee musicians since the meeting he had with some of Berklee students at the end of 2015, when Ribó decided to open a space for music. From that moment, the Cristal room, reserved only for official receptions, has been filled with music every thursday at noon.
